On January 21 and 22, 2025, a team from NABARD visited the TDF Wadi in Pratappur block, Jashpur District for two days. The visiting delegation was led by NABARD’s Chief General Manager, Dr. Gyanendra Madi, along with senior officials from the Chhattisgarh Office.

The TDF Wadi Project, implemented by READS, focuses on sustainable livelihood development for farmers through agroforestry and horticulture. The initiative has been pivotal in improving agricultural productivity and economic stability for tribal families in the region.

During the visit, the NABARD team engaged in insightful interactions with the farmers associated with the Wadi Project. Discussions centered on the challenges faced by farmers, their achievements, and the impact of the Wadi initiative on their livelihoods. The farmers shared their experiences of cultivating fruit-bearing plants and maintaining agroforestry units, emphasizing the project's role in enhancing their income and food security.

The team also conducted field visits to inspect the agricultural plots developed under the project. They closely examined the plants' health and growth, assessed the production levels, and interacted with individual farmers to understand their on-ground efforts and practices.

Dr. Gyanendra Madi commended the farmers for their dedication and acknowledged the significant progress achieved under the project. The farmers expressed their gratitude for NABARD’s continued support and highlighted the need for further technical assistance and market linkages to maximize the benefits of their produce.

READS representatives showcased the project's various components, including the introduction of improved farming techniques, capacity-building programs, and efforts to diversify income sources through intercropping and value-added products.

The two-day visit concluded with a review meeting where the NABARD team provided valuable recommendations for the project’s future. They emphasized scaling up successful practices, ensuring timely monitoring, and strengthening market connections for farmers. The visit not only reinforced NABARD’s commitment to rural development but also provided a platform for farmers to voice their aspirations and concerns. The collaborative discussions and on-field evaluations highlighted the transformative potential of sustainable agriculture in tribal areas.
